The Whale Watching Tour - The third Firework at the beach (by Canada)
canadiantour, 22:25h
Saturay, Aug 6
Okay, this time the whale watching tour really took place =D Once again i shared breakfast with Stefan and we walked together to Granville Island, where the office is located.
We arrived there at about 10.15 am, had to fill out a form and to choose a suit – oh yes, a suit which should keep warm, safe and as well a bit dry xD we both didnt know what we would have to wear one, but well... everyone looked ridiculous in the same way =D
we both spend actually the whole tour in the front row... thats where you realise the bumps the most and where you are supposed to get soaked the most. There were some water splashed from time to time but altogether we kept pretty dry.
Our tour's guide explained a lot of the rules and safety measures, and later about the life of whales, seales and eagles. It would take a long time to write down everything she said, so i just make it short by telling you: WE SAW THEM ;) =D
I have no idea how long it actually took to get us to the right spot, but it has to be sth around an hour. (On the way there, we spotted an bald eagle somewhere far up on a tree). There were many orcas/killer whales, one even rather close at our boat. There should be a distance between 100 and 200 yards between boat and whale (depending if you are in Candada or in the USA), but it is difficult to stick to that when they are coming from every direction.
It was pretty awesome to see the whales living in their natural inhabitat. Later on we also saw some seals, lying lazily around on some rocks.
We returned back to the office at about 5 pm. So it was a long tour and it was worth it. Its a difference if you see such animals in a zoo or in nature.
I was so glad to get rid off that annoying suit =)
I was planning to meet Steffi and Tanja at Granville Station at about 7.30 pm. So there was some time left. As the tour was quite exhausting somehow (or I was tired even before it started xD) we were just lying in the grass till it was time to get to the meeting point.
Steffi and Tanja were a bit late; as soon as they arrived, we made our way to the beach (english bay). There were so many people and it was quite difficult to find a good spot to watch the firework.
We managed it finally =D the firework started again at 8 pm and was so amazing. I think it was the best one of all the three. The music matched once again pretty good to the firework – the best song that was played was „Bring me to life“ by Evanescene. I had to think of Franzi at once – well who wouldn't =D =) ?!
After that we waited till the crowed had lifted a least a bit. When we set off there were still so many people, though... it took us some time till Steffi found a bus, till we brought Tanja to her hostel (in a creepy area near West Hastings Street, where an Amsterdam Coffee Shop and Scientoloy is located xD) and me to Dunsmuir Station (as Granville Station was closed). Stefan and I seperated.

Vancouver Aquarium and a Nationalpark near the skytrain-station „Commercial and Broadway“ with Navid.
canadiantour, 22:23h
Friday, Aug 5:
I was told the day before that the whale watching won't be on Saturday, but on Friday. Actually I already had got other plans for Friday but I somehow managed it to change them in order to get free time for the whale watching thing.
So I wasnt able to sleep a bit longer on Friday, but already got up at aroung 8 am. I got ready and headed for the Samesun hostel to meet Stefan there, a guy from German who is able to speak English as fluently as German probably =D =) He was the one who organised the whale watching tour. Well, when I arrived there and shared breakfast with him, he called the whale watching organisation to find out if the weather is ok or not for such a tour. Well, he just found out, that he booked the spots not for Friday, but for Saturday xD =D
So we both got up for nothing. At first glance at least. Instead he suggested to go the Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park. And that was quite nice.
There were different shows offered: we watched the dolphin-, bird- and the beluga-show The best was probably the one with dolphins =) the Aquarium is not actually that big, so we went through it quite fast. Besides to animals of the sea, there were as well birds, snakes and monkey to mention only some.
During that tour Stefan and I got to know each other loads better. He paid the entry for me by the way, cause he felt quilty for mixing up the date of the whale watching tour xD but actually i did not mind that much.
I was about to meet Steffi, Tanja and Navid at Granville station. There was still some time left till we were about to meet the others, but soon the moment had come when we had to walk to Granville Station. The thing was then, that Steffi and Tanja did not turn up... I called Tanja but did not understand properly why they could not come – so i left Stefan behind and went on with Navid (the guy i got to know at the couchsurfing-meeting) to some other place. He showed me the libraray and took me to a nationalpark which is quite near the station „commercial and broadway“.
We were sitting at the border of the lake at first, later lying in the shade on the grass (I already got sunburned a bit in the face... even though i put sun screen on it).
Soon we got back to downtown, meeting Stefan on the way to the hostel. navid went home to get changed, Stefan and i went to his hostel (samesun) and actually wanted to meet navid again at robson square (for there should be some artists and dancers). But we were both too tired for that.
So i went home pretty early and went to bed ;) =)

Today I've experienced real Canada!
canadiantour, 09:18h
Hey guys,
today I relaxed a bit in the morning and prepared myeself for the first interview here in Vancouver. I took as well other clothes to change afterwards because i wanted to go with Brook to Lynn Canyon.
So i set off at about 11.15 am and was of course much to early at the place where the interview was held =P but well, at 1 pm Josh came to see me and lead me to his office.
Well, what did he ask? Of your course, since when I am in canada and what i want to do here in Canada and how long i will stay in Vancouver etc. He asked me about previous experiences with customer service and why i believe that i am the best one for the job. Actually questions one can guess before that they will be asked.
I should describe myself in three words and explain how I react if get stressed.
Cymax is an online-shop for furniture and other stuff, my the way. And my task would mainly be to take phone calls and solve the problems the customers have (to explain the duties in short).
So no idea, if i would be able to manage that, even if i get the job.
At the beginning of next week i should now if i got the job or not.
On the way to the interview i met some guys by the way who worked in the same position as I did in Germany: they advertised for a nature company and tried to gain more members. So I asked them about jobs of course =P and I got an adress and a phone number... so I will check that tomorrow if there is a job available for me... =)
Then I met Brook finally at 1.30 pm at the samesun hostel.
We headed together to the skytrain and took then the seabus to North Vancouver. There again with the bus to Lynn Canyon.
Lynn Canyon is like a huge park or a huge forest. We walked across a suspension bridge and rested down at a 30ft-deep pool. And then the crazy adventure really started...
There were a lot of people and some were already jumping down some rough rocks. So Brook said he wanted to do that as well and finally he did... of course i had to join in somehow.....
what was a little embarassing at first that i did not find the way up to the rock xD but really, the trees look all the same and i misunderstand somehow the explaination of the way =P =D and ive never been good at orientation and finding ways. With map: no problem. But without... no way =P at least till now. Ive got still hope that it will get better some day =D =)
so yeah, a woman brought me back to brook and he showed me then the way. Oh my god, I can tell you it was so high. Brook estimated about 20 metres and I think he was right. At least 15 metres.
After some seconds (it felt like minutes) in which my heart was throbbing like mad I jumped down in the cool mountain water. Wow, what an experience. Not sure, if I want to repeat that, though =P
My butt is quite bruised now xD because i hit the water a bit wrong... but well i survived everything , so no worries =)
Afterwards, we dried a little bit in the last sun rays on the rocks and left the place at about 05.30 pm. At least I was at home at about 8 pm. That was probably the last time I saw brook. At least for a while. Perhaps we meet each other a second time in Canada (perhaps in London, Ontario) or in New Zealand (Auckland =) ). Was a quite great time hanging out with him , so its a pity that he is leaving tomorrow. Thats the way of travelling, however. You constantly get to know new people – their leaving and coming.
Perhaps I am leaving quite soon myself. It seems as if I have got the chance to get to vancouver island to work on i farm. If yes, then i get there free accommodation and food =D would be great! Probably I can only say that for sure somewhen next week. But either I go there or ive got a job here in vancouver, I think =) =D
As it was a quite long, excting and tiring day today, i wanna go sleeping now (10.30 pm). Cya guys =) =D

More applications, swimming at the beach, another firework
canadiantour, 20:50h
As you already read perhaps yesterday, i got an interview-offering today. So again: wish me luck for it.
Furtheremore I applied for more jobs online yesterday (Wed, Aug 3). I also updated my WWOOF-profile and applied for some WWOOF-places.
At about 1 pm I left home and did some more walk-in applications downtown (blenz café, seven eleven, bike rentals). I vistied the SWAP buerau in order to let me note down that i will participate in the water rafting actitivity. i hope the money is worth it... ^^ =D
I checked the place where i will have the interview today (Aug 4) and met steffi then in west-georgia street.
We got ready for bathing at the Samesun and went to the beach with Karsten and Tanja. It was again a very nice day with very nice weather =D =)
The water might have about 18 degrees, but well.. when do ever get the chance again to bath in the sunlight of vancouver? ;) =)
in the evening i walked around a little bit and enjoyed the last sun rays untill i met some people from my hostel at granville station at 8 pm. we walked together to english bay to find some good place to see the firework. the last time (on Sat) the firework was by Chinese people, this time it was by Spanish ones. It was again brilliant to watch; this time we had a place where we were able to listen to the matching music, which gave the thing a different flair.
at about 11.30 pm we arrived at home. I checked shortly the internet and realised that i got a message by some WWOOF-host. the message sounded as if he would be able to host me for a while on vancouver island. =D =) would be great! nothing is for sure yet, but i hope i will be soon.
